Revision Hub
We collect your school email, the subjects/tiers you pick, and the messages you send to Newman (our AI helper) so the Revision Hub can work for you. We don't sell your data, and we don't show you adverts. Only the people who need to (us, and the tech companies that host the site) can see it. If you're not sure about something, ask a teacher or email us — the address is at the bottom of this page.
Some staff at the school also have their own teacher accounts, used to set up classes and see how their own students are getting on (see "Teacher accounts" below).
The Revision Hub is provided by Sernio Ltd (company number 17334789, registered office 14 Fallowfield Close, BN3 7NP) ("we", "us") for students (and teaching staff) at Cardinal Newman Catholic School. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at orlando@sernio.co.uk.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your school email address | To create and secure your account, and confirm you're a Year 10/11 student (or a member of staff) at the school. |
| Your password (if you use one) | Stored securely (hashed, never in plain text) so you can sign back in. If you sign in with Google, we never see a password at all. |
| Subjects and tiers you select | So the Hub shows you the right materials, past papers, and revision plan. (Students only.) |
| Messages you send to Newman (the AI chat) | To generate a helpful reply. Some anonymised question/answer pairs may be cached to keep the service fast and affordable — please don't share personal information in chat messages. |
| Basic technical data (e.g. IP address) | Used briefly to prevent abuse of the chat (rate limiting) — not used to build a profile of you. |
| Device preferences (dark mode, text size, etc.) | Stored on your own device only, to remember how you like the site to look. |
| Your display name (teacher accounts only) | An optional name (e.g. "Mr O'Connor") shown on your own dashboard so students and colleagues know whose class they're looking at. |
| Class names, join codes, and your class roster (teacher accounts only) | So you can organise your students into classes and assign quizzes to them. |
| Bug reports you submit ("Report an issue") | Your account email and the message you write, so we can look into and fix the problem you're reporting. |
Teaching staff can be given a teacher account, set up for them directly by us at the school's request — there's no public sign-up for a teacher account. A teacher account can create classes, generate a join code for students to join, and see which of their own students have joined a class and how they've scored on any quiz that teacher has assigned. A teacher cannot see any other teacher's classes, and cannot see a student's data unless that student has joined one of their own classes.
Everything else in this policy (how we store data, who we share it with, your right to see/correct/delete it) applies equally to a teacher account.
When you take a quiz set by your teacher, we record a small amount of information about how you took it, so that your teacher can see whether a quiz score reflects your own work. You're shown exactly what this is on screen before you start, and you can see your own record on the quiz page after you submit.
What we record while you take a quiz:
What we never record. We do not use your camera, your microphone, or capture your screen. We do not record what you type anywhere other than your answers to the quiz itself, we do not track any other tab, app or website you have open, and we do not use facial recognition, eye tracking, or any other biometric monitoring. We considered this kind of exam proctoring and decided against it deliberately: it is disproportionate for a school revision quiz, and we don't think it's appropriate for children.
Nothing is decided automatically. This information is only ever shown to your own teacher, alongside your answers. It never changes your mark, and no decision about you is made by our software. If something in the record looks unusual, that is a prompt for your teacher to ask you about it — a person who knows you decides what it means, and you get to explain. There are ordinary explanations for all of these things, and the system is built on the assumption that there usually is one.
Your rights here. You can ask to see the full record held about any quiz you've taken, ask us to correct it if you think it's wrong, and object to it. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the Hub. They only process your data to provide their specific service to us — they don't use it for their own purposes.
We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Your account data is stored in the UK/EU. Because Newman's AI replies are generated by a US-based provider (Anthropic), chat message content may be transferred to and processed in the United States for that specific purpose, under appropriate data protection safeguards.
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies, so you won't see a cookie consent banner on this site — everything we store is only there to make the Hub work for you.
All the fonts this site uses are served from our own servers, not a third party's — earlier versions loaded a font live from Google's servers, which meant your device's IP address was briefly visible to Google on every page load. That's no longer the case.
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account with us. If you leave the school or ask us to delete your account, we'll remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we need to keep something for a legal reason.
You (or a parent/guardian on your behalf) can ask us at any time to:
You can delete your own account and data at any time from Settings → Delete Account (this permanently removes your account immediately — it can't be undone). For anything else, just email us at the address above and we'll sort it out.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk, if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data — though we'd really appreciate the chance to sort it out directly first.
Newman is an AI assistant, not a teacher — please don't share sensitive personal information (like health details, home address, or anything you wouldn't want a stranger to read) in a chat message. If Newman ever says something that seems wrong, unsafe, or inappropriate, please tell a teacher or contact us straight away.
If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and let the school know.
